Join us in Scandinavia and get a deeper look inside the cultural powerhouse. In this issue, we examine Scandinavia through a different lens than most, looking beyond the quality-of-life tropes to interrogate the region’s darkness and the creativity it can breed. We speak to pop icon Tove Lo, provocative filmmaker Ruben Östlund, and Sweden’s preeminent painter Karin Mamma Andersson, among others. Plus essays on the mainstream, hotel art and how to make a decision.

After 50 issues and 700,000 books in print, The Art of Kinfolk presents a compelling curation of our tenure in print. While the magazine has evolved over time, one defining characteristic has remained constant since its inception: a dedication to publishing only the most exquisite photography. From interiors to fashion, portraiture, food and travel, the magazine’s consistently boundary-pushing imagery has coalesced into one of the most immersive lifestyle aesthetics of the last decade.

For The Art of Kinfolk, the magazine’s editorial team has mined a wealth of archival content, leveraging thousands of published photographs to compile one celebratory collection featuring over 300 images. Rather than appearing chronologically, the photographs have been paired according to theme or formal association and printed on different paper stocks, highlighting both the evolution and constancy of Kinfolk’s art direction and drawing new resonances from even the simplest compositions.

Through these images, both familiar and forgotten, the world of Kinfolk is presented in full view for the first time as a beautiful, large-format photography book that captures the full arc of our artistic adventure.
